Madonna and Child, Alessandro Allori (Florence 1535 - 1607) Workshop of  Translated
Description:
Workshop of Alessandro Allori (Florence 1535 - 1607) Madonna and Child Oil on canvas (98 x 75 cm - Framed 110 x 86 cm) Details of the work (click HERE) We present this splendid Florentine work, an image of the Virgin holding the blessing Child in her arms, portrayed standing on a refined gold-trimmed cushion. Radiated by an intense divine luminosity, the little son of God, source of light himself, is described as an infant with a fair complexion and thick, slightly curled blonde hair. The figure of the Madonna, with perfect features and very smooth skin, appears full of tenderness and maternal love, and turns her gaze towards the viewer. The high quality found in the execution of the figures is masterfully emphasized also in the rendering of the fabrics, orchestrated mainly on precious, enamel-rich effects, alternating mostly between lapis lazuli blue and the most iridescent red. From the point of view of pictorial paternity, both for the technique and for the stylistic rendering, the painting can be attributed to a Tuscan artist strongly influenced by the Florentine Alessandro Allori (Florence 1535 - 1607). Trained in the workshop of Agnolo di Cosimo, where he perfected his drawing and study of human anatomy, Allori completed his apprenticeship in Rome, remaining strongly influenced by the style of the great masters of Mannerism. After returning to Florence, the artist was appointed official painter at the Medici court and, in order to respond to the ever-increasing number of commissions, started his own workshop. It is probably to the circle of Alessandro Allori's pupils that the work presented here should be attributed: the name of his son and collaborator Cristofano Allori (Florence 1577 - 1621), linked like his father to the Florentine academic tradition, could be a fit. The attention both to the meticulous description of the details and to the naturalistic rendering of the subjects are elements that highlight how this painting has close analogies with many works created by Allori: as emerges from our canvas, the painter highlights the beauty of the Virgin, interpreted as an ethereal woman, characterized by the candor of the complexion, highlighted by the monochrome black background, which at the same time does not result in preciosity, but rather is characterized by a strong character. This representative type is carried out throughout his career, studded with a large number of portrait commissions. Compare some details of our work with the self-portrait of Cristofano Allori, kept at the Palazzo degli Uffizi (Vasari Corridor, Florence). Note in particular the features with the same inclination of the face, the same expressive sweetness that we find in the proposed Madonna (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Self-portrait_by_Alessandro_Allori.jpg ).
