The Old Paintings category depicts a rough sea, with breaking waves crashing on the shore, rendered through a dynamic and textured brushstroke. The color palette is composed of natural tones, with shades of blue, green, and gray, balanced by delicate luminous reflections that effectively capture the changing atmosphere of the sky and sea.
In the background, a silhouette of a sailboat can be seen, an element that adds depth and a sense of distance to the composition.
The work is enclosed in a beautiful original wooden lacquered frame, contemporary to the painting, called Montparnasse.
These are oil paintings on canvas, from the early 1900s, signed lower right by Kees Terlouw.
Kees Terlouw (1890-1948), a Dutch painter born in Rotterdam, but later active in France, was a painter of still lifes, figurative paintings, and landscapes. An Impressionist painter.
The frame and painting have been accurately and professionally restored.
