Madonna dello Sterpeto is the name by which the Virgin Mary is venerated in Barletta.
The Byzantine-style icon of the Virgin of medieval origin, already highly venerated by the people since 1657, the year, according to tradition, of its discovery in the farmhouse of Sterpeto (3km from Barletta).
She was proclaimed Holy Patroness of the city and special Protector in 1732.
