Important pair of large still life paintings with a hunting theme, oil on canvas, attributable to the Emilian / Paduan school of the 17th century. The two canvases depict game (birds and small animals) placed next to fruit and flowers, according to a typical iconography of 17th-century decoration in northern Italy. The compositions, ample and horizontal, are conceived as pendants, with a calibrated play of dark masses and light accents that favors the overall effect and decorative rendering. The painting features a rapid and sketched execution, consistent with a destination of furniture (dining rooms, boiserie, representative environments), rather than with an intention of minute naturalistic description. The works are accompanied by contemporary carved wooden frames, subsequently re-gilded, which enhance their scenographic impact and confirm the original conception as valuable furnishing elements. From a conservation point of view, the paintings have been relined and equipped with replaced/remade frames, with overall restorations carried out to guarantee stability and good presentation.
