"Allegory of Fortitude"  Translated
Description:
"Allegory of Fortitude" Emilian artist of the 17th century Oil on canvas Canvas cm. 97 x 78 Frame cm. 110 x 90 Excellent condition "The Allegory of Fortitude" is a recurring theme in 17th-century art, representing the virtue of inner strength and the ability to resist adversity. As per tradition, it is depicted here by a beautiful and proud female figure symbolizing the cardinal virtue of fortitude, armed with attributes that evoke it, holding a shield and sword. To increase the sense of great power and courage, the image of a rampant lion appears on the shield, an animal considered the classic emblem of strength. The vermilion red of the garments, always associated with passion and blood, is a further sign of great vigor and stands out vibrantly, with an excellent result on the canvas. The work certainly conveyed a message of resilience and determination, reminding us that true strength is not only physical but also inner, as seen in the protagonist's serene expression. The allegory of Fortitude was used to educate and inspire, promoting moral and civic values through art. Noble families particularly appreciated this representation, which often appeared in their homes. The author of the painting perfectly expresses the characteristics required by the commissions of the time, creating an image capable of instilling in guests the idea of virtue, strength, and courage. The work is in excellent condition and has maintained its splendid colors over time with a very evident and effective chiaroscuro effect. It comes complete with its antique gilded frame. We issue a stamped and signed certificate of authenticity that guarantees the period, provenance, and all characteristics of the work, drawn up by an antique dealer affiliated with FIMA (ITALIAN FEDERATION OF ART DEALERS).
