Description
Bembo Pietro (1470-1547). Prose di M. Pietro Bembo, in which the vernacular language is discussed, written to Cardinal De Medici, who was later created Supreme Pontiff and called Pope Clement VII, divided into three books. In Venice, by Giouan Tacuino, in the month of September 1525.
First edition
Beautiful antique binding (early Seventeenth century?) in full leather, spine with raised bands and boards framed by a dry fillet. A reinforcement to the lower (blank) margin of the title page, some scattered spots and a small weakening at the lower corner of the last leaves. However, a genuine and particularly wide-margined, well-preserved copy. Original edition of this work of great interest for the use of the Italian language in which Bembo aims to create a common literary language, which had the same dignity and elegance as Latin. In the form of a story, this chronological fiction serves to affirm the priority of the grammar exposed in the third book compared to the grammatical rules of the vernacular language published by Giovan Francesco Fortunio in 1516.
