In the foreground is the dead Christ, lifeless and limply lying on Mary's knees, supported and adored by a woman who, kneeling on the left side of the composition, touches his hand with her face, and by two sad and adoring Angels on the right.
The figure of Mary, with her head surrounded by a shining halo, looks towards the viewer, with an expression full of emotion and a sense of inescapable sorrow.
Particularly intense in the rendering of the feelings that distinguish all the figures represented, the painting is in a good state of conservation. It is framed by a small 16th-century Venetian temple with columns in the round, various carved details, and finished at the top with two opposing cornucopias.
