Hagar and Ishmael's expulsion, oil on copper from the 2nd half of the 17th century  Translated
Description:
Interesting oil painting on copper plate of remarkable pictorial quality depicting a scene described in the Old Testament "The Expulsion of Hagar and Ishmael." It is a painting of remarkable quality, which could be studied more accurately, it is interesting to note the fast and contemptuous pictorial style, especially in the way of executing the figures, somewhat caricatured which seems to look at the figures of the mature Salvator Rosa or how instead the dense and crumpled draperies are treated in a taste that refers to Nordic models. In fact, it is possible that it could be a Nordic painter active in Italy around the mid-seventeenth century. The way of treating the landscape and architectural elements is very beautiful, with more relaxed and calm ways. The painting in good condition is mounted on a gilded frame from the early nineteenth century. The painting is, in principle, in good condition, but yellowing of the pigments due to the stratification of dust and dirt are perceptible and therefore we recommend requesting a cleaning of the pictorial surface to be able to enjoy and use this remarkable work, which we preferred to leave in this condition to maintain the charm of the old. The measurements are approximately 31cm x 25 cm - 40cm x 34 cm including frame. We attach a historical certificate of authenticity to the sale.  Translated
