Naples Market Square François Reynaud
Dimensions: : 108 cm,: 152 cm,: 6 cm
Description:
Oil on canvas, dated (75) and signed
by François Reynaud (Marseille 1825, Paris 1909),
depicting a Neapolitan market with characters.
The French painter often worked in Italy, reproducing
rural scenes with picturesque characters from peasant culture.
Specifically, the scene depicts a local market where
ladies in elegant dresses, accompanied by their servants,
go to buy fruit and vegetables.
In contrast, there are characters and children
in worn and dirty clothes begging for food or
eating scraps and leftovers from the ground.
In the center, a woman cooks food in braziers and
pots to sell to passersby.
The background, barely visible, is the market square in Naples
with the bell tower of the Church of the Carmine on the right.
Painting in good condition,
the frame requires restoration.
The canvas measures 138 cm long and 93 cm high.
