This 18th-century painting from the Neapolitan school depicts a well-known biblical scene, namely Jesus in the house of Martha and Mary, a subject often treated in Christian art from the Renaissance onwards.
The painting shows three main figures: on the right, Jesus Christ, represented by a man with a halo of light around his head, seated with a calm and authoritative gesture; in the center, Martha, with an active expression and gestures indicating dialogue or explanation, who is concerned with serving; in the lower left, Mary kneeling, with a serene and contemplative gaze towards Jesus, her hands clasped on her chest.
The background shows a domestic interior, with tableware and a laid table, symbols of Martha's daily occupations. The warm tones and rich folds of the drapery refer to the Baroque style.
