Beautiful and rare Venetian painting from the mid-1700s, depicting a full-length Admiral with ruins in the background. On the column to the right, we notice the inscription: Osvaldo Parussati, 53 years old - 1749.
Deliberately during the restoration phases, four small holes with a diameter of a few millimeters were left in "rough stucco" in the upper and central area of the painting, because according to the story of the originating family, during the Austrian raids in the mid-1800s, soldiers invaded their estate in Veneto, entered the villa and fired several shots against the canvas, looting the house.
Alessandro Longhi, portraitist, was born on June 12, 1733, in Venice, the firstborn of the painter Pietro Falca, known as Longhi, and Caterina Maria Rizzi. He embarked on an artistic career and intensified it greatly in the 1770s.
