Marine Village with figures and boats
Marine Village with figures and boats, oil on canvas, 60x108 cm, English school of the 19th century, work by George Dunlop Leslie (London, 1835 – 1921), an English painter specializing in genre painting. Son of the artist Charles Robert Leslie, he trained at the Royal Academy and was initially influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, later developing a realistic and refined style, dedicated to representing the everyday bourgeois life of Victorian England.
A member of the St. John's Wood Clique artistic group, Leslie painted domestic scenes, often with children and women as protagonists, taking care of every detail with precision. Famous works such as Frozen Out, The Afternoon Tea, Alice in Wonderland and Sun and Moon Flowers reveal his love for family intimacy and the poetic atmosphere of everyday life.
He was also a writer and book illustrator. He died in London in 1921.
