Description:
Antique oil painting on metal sheet (cm.26; h.35) placed inside its contemporary gilded frame (cm.35; h.43). Made in Italy in the second half of the 19th century (1870/1890), it depicts Saint Constantine the Great, represented with a flag and a double-headed eagle. The cult of Saint Constantine (Sant'Antine) also exists in Sardinia, in whose honor a wild galloping ride (S'Ardia, is a ritual horse race held in honor of a saint) is carried out along the entire route that leads to the church named after him. The best known is the one that runs on 6/7 July near the sanctuary not far from Sedilo dedicated to Emperor Constantine.
