19th century, Model of the Milan Cathedral  Translated
Description:
19th century Model of the Milan Cathedral Carved and openwork wood, 100 x 132 x 78 cm Equipped with internal lighting system The image shows an elaborate wooden model of the Milan Cathedral. The model faithfully reproduces the Gothic architecture of the cathedral, with its wealth of spires, pinnacles, flying buttresses and stained-glass windows. Numerous architectural details are noticeable, from the stylized sculptures to the meticulous decorations that cover the surface. The windows are illuminated from the inside, thanks to the presence of a lighting system designed to simulate the evocative effect of light filtering through the windows of the real Cathedral. The perspective of the model emphasizes the grandeur and complexity of the structure of the Milanese cathedral, culminating with the main spire topped by the Madonnina. The craftsmanship is evident in the precision of the carvings and in the assembly of the various elements, making the model a true work of art in miniature. The model under consideration here, dating back to the mid-19th century, shares several similarities with other famous models of the Milan Cathedral, in particular with the Modellone of the Museo del Duomo in Milan and with the model exhibited at the exhibition "Il Genio di Milano" held at the Gallerie d'Italia in Milan. The three models share the didactic and illustrative intent, the use of wood as a construction material, the attention to the representation of the fine details of the Gothic and neo-Gothic architecture, and the general skill in the carving and piercing of the wooden surface.  Translated
