This oil on canvas painting was made in France in the 19th century and is currently located in our warehouses in Roncadelle (Brescia). The artist E. Genty's signature is in the lower right corner. The painting depicts the portrait of a high-ranking notable wearing a red toga and ermine fur, sitting in what was probably his study. The colors of the toga and complexion are enhanced by the dark background, which gives seriousness to the whole, and the practically invisible brushstrokes denote the mastery in realistically portraying a person, almost waiting for the judge to proclaim his sentence. The golden frame encloses everything in elegant and simple lines that enhance the figure, making this painting a splendid example of art.
