Polychrome stucco bas-relief depicting Madonna and Child, Central Italy, 15th-16th century  Translated
Description:
Polychrome stucco bas-relief in Renaissance style, depicting the Madonna and Child. The work, of probable Central Italian origin and datable between the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, shows a half-bust composition with a central cut, strongly reminiscent of the devotional production of the time. The Virgin, with her head inclined and her gaze turned towards the Son, wears a dark blue veil that frames her face and falls on her shoulders, over a purple robe. The naked Child is represented in a dynamic attitude, with his arms and legs slightly bent and his face turned towards the viewer. The background is decorated with a constellation of raised golden stars, which helps to create a sacred and symbolic aura around the characters. The surface of the stucco still retains traces of original polychromy, with soft but well-distributed colors, typical of Italian Renaissance artistic production intended for private devotion. The work was framed in a later period within a linear wooden frame, probably dating back to the nineteenth century, which enhances its vision without altering its original formal setting. Overall dimensions: 36 x 47 cm  Translated
