Rare Viennese Classicism toilet/desk, circa 1770. Exquisite piece of furniture in original patina from the Viennese neoclassical period (circa 1770). The piece is veneered in the best quality burr walnut with maple and fruitwood inlays. This type of small-sized furniture was used by the nobility of the time as both a ladies' writing desk and a container for valuables and cosmetics. Correspondence and valuables were kept in the lower drawers, which were locked with an ingenious mechanism. This original patina object, in very good condition, has been restored, consolidated and French polished with shellac, using museum standard techniques. Usable as a "centerpiece", as the original back has also been cared for and polished. Width 98 cm, depth 48 cm, height 75 cm.
