"The Repentance of Mary Magdalene"
Oil on canvas
Emilian School of the 17th Century
Canvas 57 x 45 frame 75 x 62
Excellent condition
A Magdalene of great beauty, elegantly dressed and bejeweled, is depicted at the culminating moment of her repentance. With her eyes turned to the sky and full of tears, she brings her hand to her pearl necklace to tear it away, renouncing the carefree life, dedicated to ephemeral pleasures, to embrace the unconditional love towards Christ.
The painting describes the scene in an elegant manner, evidently executed for placement in domestic settings and offers an unusual image of the attractive protagonist.
In fact, the scene is far from the exasperated depictions, steeped in a gloomy atmosphere, which see Magdalene with her face disfigured by pain beside the skull and the Crucifix.
The work, while well depicting the same episode, conveys the message of repentance in a manner more suited to the needs of the private client and lends itself to easy placement in domestic environments.
It is certainly a canvas that, although considered of religious connotation, is particularly pleasant when inserted in any context.
The painting is in excellent condition and complete with a beautiful gilded frame from the 19th century
