Anonymous Romantic from the first half of the 19th century (perhaps Ferdinand George Waldmueller or in any case a skilled painter of the Biedermeier period). The interesting painting is a masterful and faithful antique copy of "Thunderstorm brewing" by Jakob van Ruisdael, a great Flemish painter of the 17th century (original now kept at the Alte Pinakothek in Munich). Decorative gilded leaf frame from a later period. The canvas measures cm. 67 x 58 (excluding frame). On the back, heraldic stamp of the princely or archducal Bavarian family that originally commissioned it. Signed "Ruisdael" on the edge of the canvas. Previous restoration with cleaning. The work, to be clearly visible, as it is in rather dark tones, requires strong lighting (as in the photo). Patina and signs of aging consistent with its age.
