Saint Francis of Assisi in prayer is depicted with iconographic attributes: book, skull, Christ, and rosary.
Work by an unknown painter from the early 17th century, belonging to the Roman circle of the painter Ludovico Cardi known as Cigoli.
The painting shows a close relationship with Cigoli's Saint Francis in prayer, not only in the iconography, but also in the sculpted modeling of the Saint's face and hands, in the hints of the rocky landscape, in the shrubs and fronds on the right, and in the opening of the sky against the green background.
Good state of preservation, on its original canvas. There are some slight color unveilings in the brown colors and in the Saint's ear.
Frame from the early 1800s.
Date: first part of the 17th century.
Canvas measures 101 cm high x 71 cm wide
