Pair of musician angels of remarkable quality, executed by a skilled carver active between the late seventeenth and the first quarter of the eighteenth century in the Papal States. Well-rendered anatomies of the faces and finely carved elements such as hair and feathered wings. The formal rendering as a whole is shown according to those late-Baroque and probably already slightly Rococo canons of the sculptor, who plays on the movement of the clothes, naturally cadenced in the folds above the belt, and much more dynamic in the lower part that follows the "march" of the angels, from the pouring of external factors, which flutter in favor of the winds.
These splendid angels are kept very well, as is the original gilding, preserved almost completely.
They need some restoration, in terms of the stability of the additional elements (wings and trumpets). For the rest, the gilding is intact and solid. The only defect is at the level of the wooden bases which were most likely regilded when the metal bases were added.
All elements are original to the period. The sale will be accompanied by a historical certificate of guarantee.
