A large canvas of rare beauty that excellently describes the surreal charm of Venice, with the monuments and boats reflected on the lagoon in a fantastic play of light and color.
It is the San Marco Basin, the aquatic space of the Venetian lagoon in front of Piazza San Marco. It overlooks the pier of the Piazzetta with the Doge's Palace, the columns of San Marco and San Todaro, the National Marciana Library, and the Dogana point with the famous Church of the Salute, between the mouth of the Grand Canal and that of the Giudecca, ending with the distant view of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
It is considered the heart of the City, its most representative view and the Venetian scenario most depicted by the great Master illustrators of the Serenissima.
The valuable painting, executed with great vedutistic technique, is to be included in the most beautiful and refined production of Venetian views made in the 1800s by artists who continued with great effectiveness the extraordinary lesson of the Great Masters Francesco Guardi and Canaletto, from whom the Author draws all the pictorial peculiarities with exceptional light and chiaroscuro effects.
Notable is the sense of space and depth, emphasized by the perfect perspective rendering of the series of buildings that converge at the focal point identified in a particularly happy way in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.
Exceptional is the miniaturistic description of the monuments, but to mention the perfect shape of the figures and boats that animate the spectacular view.
The work is in excellent condition and is complete with the splendid original richly decorated and gilded frame.
