Important Venetian canvas painted in an excellent manner by an artist in the circle of the great Venetian Master, from whom he assimilates the innovative lesson based on the use of color, with
the juxtaposition of warm and cool colors between the different chromatic areas, thus accentuating the effects of light.
This large painting depicting the Virgin with Child and Saint John is a splendid example and the excellent state of preservation allows for a perfect reading and a perfect enjoyment.
The sfumato effects are rendered with truly surprising effectiveness and the three-dimensional effect of the three protagonists is extraordinary. The composition of the two Children is very apt, showing the baby Jesus looking down to bless Saint John, who in turn raises his face with his hands clasped in prayer.
The faces of the children intersect vertically and their naked bodies are painted with exceptional volumetric effect. The Author, although working in the decades immediately following, is evidently influenced by the analogous works of Titian both in the compositional and pictorial choice, and above all chromatic.
The bright red and decisive blue of the garments that cover the Virgin contrast with the dark and cold green of the draperies, often used by Vecellio in paintings with the depiction of the Virgin.
Finally, the complexions of the characters stand out from the dark background with a typically Titianesque luminosity.
It is a work of considerable level, where the Artist's commitment to maintaining the highest qualitative standard in a large work is evident, in all its parts, without the slightest yielding.
The work is complete with a beautiful carved and pierced wooden frame from the 19th century.
