Description:
MEASUREMENTS IN CM With frame 52 x 40 - professional packaging, insured shipping with couriers. Delivery by appointment only at street level, no porterage to floors. DESCRIPTION Beautiful antique 18th-century engraving with a non-coeval walnut frame. It is an engraving by Jean-Jacques de Boissieu (1736-1810), a French engraver. Born in Lyon, Boissieu studied at the École Gratuite de Dessin in his hometown, but was mainly self-taught. He began producing prints between 1758-64, then traveled to Italy following the ambassador Louis Alexandre, Duc de la Rochefoucauld d'Enville (1743-1792); during the trip he met Voltaire and returned with a collection of landscape drawings. Jean-Jacques de Boissieu created several plates for the Encyclopédie of Diderot-d'Alembert. He continued to produce prints in Lyon, which earned him the reputation of the last representative of the oldest engraving tradition. Boissieu made many engravings of the Roman and Dutch countryside, as well as the Lyon countryside. He was also sought after as a reproductive engraver. His students included Louis Nicolas Philippe Auguste de Forbin and his nephew Claude Victor de Boissieu. We advise you to look carefully at all the images. Offered at a negotiable price, we invite you to send us your purchase proposals, we will gladly evaluate them.
