Pair of views of Venice - SOLD  Translated
Description:
Giuseppe Ponga (Chioggia 1856 - Venice 1925) Pair of views of Venice 1) Doge's Palace 2) S. Maria della Salute Oil on panel Gilded tray frame Panel cm. 26 x 31 frame 40 x 45 Excellent condition Signed works A pair of splendid jewels depicting two magnificent perspectives of the "San Marco Basin" seen from the waters in front of the Riva degli Schiavoni. These are two views that perfectly combine to form a single view that extends from the Doge's Palace to the Island of San Giorgio, describing a sequence of monuments overlooking the Lagoon. You can see the columns of the Square, the bulk of the Campanile and the domes of the Basilica, to reach the Dogana point with the Church of the Salute. The author, who signs on the bow of the typical Venetian fishing boats, is one of the most valid view painters operating in Venice between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. His paintings are exquisitely made, the brushstroke is very fine, and his depictions, always referring to the great Masters of the 18th century, are of great elegance. These two small masterpieces are two excellent examples of his pictorial abilities, showing a personal stylistic perfection in the reinterpretation of eighteenth-century Venetian painting. The works are complete with beautiful original frames that in turn reflect the rocaille taste, revisited in a manner consistent with the characteristics of the paintings. GIUSEPPE PONGA Chioggia (Venice) 1856 - Venice 1925 After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast work ranges across various artistic fields, from mural and easel painting to miniature and watercolor, always retracing the manner and themes of the eighteenth-century models of G. B. Tiepolo and F. Guardi. He received prestigious assignments, such as the decorations of the Palace of Parliament in Budapest and some rooms of the Royal Palace of Venice. He also painted the famous ten panels in eighteenth-century style that adorn the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri", a historic Venetian landmark that directly overlooks Piazza San Marco. His paintings are very pleasant and their difficult availability on the market makes them highly sought after. His certain and signed works are in fact very rare and obtain important results at international auctions.
