This splendid painting excellently reproduces the Allegory of Poetry, Carlo Dolci's masterpiece located in the National Gallery of Palazzo Corsini in Rome.
The success of the work, which portrays a beautiful young woman in profile, was such that his workshop re-proposed it in various versions, always highly appreciated by high-ranking clients.
Evidently of excellent hand, we believe our painting to be of a remarkable level, so much so that it can be considered among those particularly well done and to be associated precisely with Dolci's workshop. In fact, the excellent quality of the painting clearly distinguishes it from the many copies executed by minor artists.
The exceptional quality of the painting is highlighted by an excellent state of preservation that brings out the bright and precious colors and the extraordinary rendering of the nuances.
The use of lapis lazuli powder to obtain the magnificent chromatism of the blue mantle demonstrates the importance and the high quality standard of the Author of the canvas.
The comparison with the work exhibited at Palazzo Corsini, which we publish for comparison, also confirms its certain attribution.
The painting, datable to the second part of the 17th century, features an old 19th-century re-lining executed in a workmanlike manner and is complete with an elegant antique gilded frame.
The pictorial layer has been professionally cleaned with the application of protective varnish. (See the photo before cleaning).
