Bukhara or Bokhara rugs are produced by the Turkoman peoples. The Turkoman peoples are among the oldest dedicated to the art of carpet knotting. Their tribal groups and subgroups are spread across a vast territory ranging from Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan, from Afghanistan to Iran. Their rugs, produced in an infinite range of designs and qualities, are easily recognizable for their geometric layout, the color almost always in shades of red as a background, and the exclusive use of wool.
