This three-light chandelier, finely chiseled, patinated and gilded bronze, was made in France in the 18th century. It consists of two magnificent female figures, dressed in richly draped classicizing tunics; the young women support three gilded bronze arms with volutes and foliate decorations, and at the apex, the candle holders with feathered bases.
The modeling of the figures is stylistically attributable to the French sculptor Louis-Simon Boizot (1743-1809), who trained in Paris and Rome at the French Academy. From 1773 to 1800, Boizot directed the sculpture works at Sèvres, producing a series of white Biscuit porcelain figures in a neoclassical style, softened by the voluptuous forms of the Rococo. The parts, on the other hand, in gilded bronze can be attributed to François Rémond (c. 1747 – 1812), one of the best engravers and gilders of his time, active especially for the royal court.
The young female figures rest on a circular marble base with gilded bronze reserves and three gilded bronze festoons. The marble base rests on a black Belgian marble plinth.
The large dimensions, the contrasting colors of the materials, the bronze figures with gilded bronze arms, and the elegant black marble plinth contrasting with the light marble pedestal, suggest that the object was intended to be placed in the center of a table or on a column to be placed in a corner or between two pieces of furniture. Thanks to its majestic size, it can therefore be placed on a set table for an important occasion or placed on a console, adding refinement and elegance to your rooms.
