Supper at Emmaus - Painting still on its original canvas - Emilian area, mid-17th century.
It has an important finely carved green and gold lacquered frame of excellent workmanship.
The painting, never having been touched, needs a good cleaning during restoration, which would allow the vivid and strong chromaticism it possesses to emerge. (As can be seen in a small glimpse of sky, which has not been intensely affected by dust and dirt, it brings out a beautiful ultramarine blue).
This painting of Emilian and Guercino tradition was executed by a talented painter who knew how to give the composition a great breath, creating a central vanishing point through porticoed architecture.
The characters are also well executed and the slightly caricatured characteristics are probably due to the stylistic conceptions of this beautiful 17th-century painter.
The painting comes from an important picture gallery of a noble family from central Italy and has never circulated in the antique market.
The canvas measures approximately 128 x 100 cm, with the frame approximately 152 cm x 124 cm.
We attach a certificate of authenticity to the sale.
