This bronze, depicting the return of an Arab rider from a hunting trip, is the work of the French sculptor Alfred Barye, born in Paris in January 1839. This is attested by the signature on the base which reads "Barye fils". A student of his father, the sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye, he signed his works with the appellation "fils" (son) precisely to distinguish them from those of the master. His work consists of animals and oriental subjects in bronze that he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1864 to 1882.
