Antique Victorian copper sphere inkwell in brass and cabochon tiger's eye with lozenge hallmark  Translated
Description:
Description: Spectacular English inkwell made of copper exactly in 1874: spherical in shape, with lateral rings, it is incorporated to its saucer. In the upper part and along the edge of the saucer we find chiseled brass applications with embedded cabochon stones (tiger's eye: quartz). The sphere of the antique inkwell of the Victorian period has a diameter of cm.Ø7, the saucer measures cm.Ø17.5 while the total height is cm.10. Marked George Betjenmann & Sons with the Lozenge hallmark from which it is possible to trace exactly the day, month and year of construction (photo n°10). Since the Lozenge hallmark is an English dating method and dividing into two periods, by clicking here you can directly consult the 2nd period to which this inkwell belongs. The company of George Betjemann was founded in 1851 and in 1858 his sons George William and John also took over, becoming George Betjemann & Sons. The company was transformed into S.r.l. in 1909 and in 1939 it was acquired by Puddefoot, Bowers & Simonett Ltd.  Translated
