Marzio Masturzo (Rome, 17th century) - Clash of Knights  Translated
Description:
Marzio Masturzo (Active in Naples and Rome in the second half of the 17th century) Oil on canvas painting depicting a clash of knights near a fortress Dimensions: 93 x 129 cm With coeval frame: 117 x 153 cm Masturzo belongs to the 17th-century group of Neapolitan "battle painters." A student and friend of Salvator Rosa, he opens himself up to the Baroque more than his master. His realistic battles, although inspired by Rosa, are very much in tune with Borgognone while demonstrating his own personality. Important and high-level pictorial battles by Masturzo can be found at the National Gallery of Rome. The painting is in excellent condition and is accompanied by expert opinions from Giancarlo Sestieri and Ferdinando Arisi.  Translated
