Provenance Marchesi Giberti di San Ginesio.
Report by Professor Riccardo Lattuada
The support and execution technique of the painting, in excellent condition, suggest it was executed between the late 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. The palette, made of bright contrasts of red, blue, and earthy tones, stands out against the golden background populated by monochrome cherubs, emphasizing the emotional tenderness of the scene, in which the small Saint John offers the scroll with the inscription "ECCE AGNVUS DEI" to the infant Jesus.
Based on research carried out, it is shown that the composition of the painting is related to a print by Cornelis Bloemaert published in the Galleria Giustiniana, which reproduces a painting already in Rome in the 17th century, at Palazzo Giustiniani, and attributed to Titian in a 1638 inventory
