We present this sculpture depicting Diana with a lion, an artwork formerly placed to crown the center of a fountain, sculpted in the round entirely in Istrian stone. Period: 15th-16th century Origin: Italy Materials: Istrian stone Dimensions: height 90 cm, base approximately 30 × 40 cm The sculpture is in excellent condition and is made from a single block of Istrian stone, in the round, that is, on all sides, designed to be viewed from every angle; From the base rises the solid, almost masculine posture of the deity, characterized by the singular chiastic pose with upper and lower limbs opposed in the manner of the great Greco-Roman statuary tradition. The right hand encircles the breast while the left rests on the feline's mane, all under the pride of a gaze absorbed in a point that we cannot know.
