At the mirror, 1917  Translated
Description:
ANSELMO BUCCI (Fossombrone, 1887 - Monza, 1955) At the mirror, 1917 Oil on canvas, 59x48 cm Signed and dated on the lower right “BUCCI/Milano 1917” On the back, autograph signature, title and date Provenance: Mario Fossati collection - Bucci Heirs Exhibitions: "The Itinerant Art of the Italian Twentieth Century" Milan, Studiolo, March-April 2011 Bibliography: Anselmo Bucci - The Mario Fossati collection (Milan, 2009) n 149;  The Itinerant Art of the Italian Twentieth Century, edited by N.Colombo and G.Cribiori, Allemandi e C 2011 The Studiolo gallery proceeds with the archiving of the Master's works through the Anselmo Bucci Archive Milan for information [email protected] A work of particular charm and conception, rich in ideas due to the suggestive adoption of tones linked to Middle European art, but above all for a mysterious and, at times, disturbing subject: it is in fact evident that the young woman from behind (Juliette, who seems to cover her face) is not the figure that appears in the mirror, which rather represents a dreamlike vision, evidently linked to themes consistent with symbolist painting. The beautiful floral theme in Matissian taste on the blouse in the foreground gives the work balance and aesthetic completion, enriching with a few touches of red a palette deliberately kept in the warm tones of the typical "Buccian" greens and blues.
