"Saint Lucia"
Venetian Master of the 16th Century
Oil on canvas
Era: 16th century
Canvas dimensions: cm. 155 x 97; frame 100 x 158
This large and fascinating Venetian work, executed in the mid-16th century, depicts a splendid image of Saint Lucia.
The Saint is portrayed full-length, standing, very slender in a markedly vertical pose.
Very elegant in her robes and austere attitude, she shows her pierced eyes to recall her martyrdom.
The Venetian origin of the canvas is evident, which, due to its large size, was divided into two joined pieces, as was customary in the 16th century.
The splendid figure of the Holy Martyr and her face, present with extreme elegance a solemn staticity, with strong still Gothic characteristics.
The painting is still on its first canvas and has only been re-stretched.
While showing the signs of time, it retains all its charm and its pictorial characteristics as well as its intense emotional message.
Both the canvas and the pictorial layer are very healthy and do not present dangers of breakage or detachment of color.
A certificate of authenticity and lawful origin with descriptive sheet will be issued.
