Late 19th century

This splendid large watercolor painting depicts the most spectacular and celebrated of Venetian views. The Rialto Bridge, one of the four bridges that cross the Grand Canal, certainly the most famous, often depicted as a symbol of the fantastic Lagoon City.
The work, of exquisite workmanship, bears the signature of one of the most talented landscape painters of the late 19th century, the Milanese Paolo Sala, considered a prominent artist especially in the technique of watercolor.
Born into a high-ranking Milanese family, after studying at Brera he immediately established himself with his ability in the depiction of city views and had great commercial success even when young.
He spent much of his life traveling between Rome, Venice, Milan, Naples and the most important cities in Europe in constant search of new images to transfer onto canvas and paper.
He was a tireless painter always preferring to work on an easel en "plein air".
His works are exhibited in important museums and private collections.
Our work is certainly among his most interesting in consideration of the excellent quality, the remarkable size and the extraordinary beauty of the scene.
