GIOVANNI DOMENICO FERRETTI (Florence, 1692-1768)
Card Players
oil on canvas, 42x31cm
provenance: Italian antique market
Set in a rustic environment, three characters in peasant clothes play cards around a makeshift support, while in the background another character peeks secretly.
A genre scene typical of the early eighteenth century, a type dear to Ferretti and much requested by the bourgeois clientele of the time. Canvases with similar subjects and attributable to the Florentine painter are kept at the Venetian eighteenth-century museum Ca 'Rezzonico in Venice.
