17th-century oil on copper depicting the flagellation of Christ. The work is attributed to the workshop of Giuseppe Cesari, known as Cavalier d'Arpino, as evidenced by comparing the figure of Christ from the homonymous work by the great master. The painting is set within a beautiful contemporary frame. On the back, there is a dedication in French, written in bistre, for a gift made by a brother to his sister, presumably in the 1800s, but the date is only partially legible "le 1er janvier....." Copper dimensions 30.5x23.5, with frame 43x36
