Repentance of Saint Peter. The rendering of the reality of St. Peter's gaze through the use of strong contrasts of light and shadow, common in paintings by Caravaggio painters especially of the Neapolitan Caravaggism period, which is found in this large painting due to its realism represented by the deep and penetrating gaze of St. Peter turned upwards and imploring forgiveness, repenting of his betrayal, created on a very dark monochrome background, painted with bituminous brown or umber fields and illuminated by bursts of violent, sometimes theatrical light from the Neapolitan school.
