ERNST BOHNE SOHNE, RUDOLSTADT, Magot, hand-decorated porcelain, late 19th century  Translated
Dimensions: : 15 cm cm,: 15 cm cm,: 15 cm cm
Description:
Rare Magot in finely hand-decorated polychrome porcelain, head with tilting tongue and hands, Ernst Bohne Sohne, Rudolstadt, Germany, late 19th century. Dimensions: Height 14 cm Length 15 Depth 15 cm In a good state of preservation. The statuette of a draped female figure with floral decoration is depicted sitting with her legs crossed and her hands outstretched. Some Magot models, just like the one presented here, have movable parts, including the hands, tongue, and head. The Magots personify in human form the Chinese god of abundance and happiness Pu-Tai, and during the eighteenth century these small statuettes, imported into Europe from Cathay, had a discreet success in aristocratic homes as a sign of exoticism and were renamed "Magot," which in France means Barbary macaque, as a sign of gaiety. Inside, a particular and rare mechanism which, once recharged, allows the synchronous movement of hands and head. A certainly unusual and bizarre object but at the same time of great value and of certain oriental charm, a real exotic gem. Packaging and transport will be carried out professionally. We ship all over the world. The estimated shipping time is generally 1 to 7 working days. Additional photos will be sent upon request. The item is available at our shop located in Turin in via Monte di Pietà 23/i, regularly open 6 days out of 7. For more information, do not hesitate to contact us.  Translated
