Large dimensions for this pastel on paper applied on wood which portrays a lady with her pet. The work is signed on the lower right by the author Vittorio Cavalleri (1860 - 1938), a Piedmontese painter, the son of a cloth merchant, was started by his father for the family's commercial activity. At eighteen years old Vittorio Cavalleri enrolled in the courses of the Albertina Academy and had Andrea Gastaldi as his teacher. He attended the Albertina together with the painters Andrea Tavernier and Lorenzo Delleani. In the same year of his diploma, 1883, he exhibited at the Circolo degli Artisti and in 1884 he participated in the Promoter of Fine Arts in Turin, with the paintings Abandoned hoes and Cemetery flowers, which was later destroyed by the same Author. Traces of this remain in an etching by C. Turchetti. Vittorio Cavalleri taught in Turin, at the evening courses of the Albertina Academy.
