This splendid and luminous antique icon depicts the "Theotokos of the Sign" and is named so because it refers to the prophecy of Isaiah "God himself will give you a Sign, the Virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, he who will be Emmanuel". ----
Mary, in a praying pose, carries the blessing Son in her womb. ----
The three stars on the mantle recall the perpetual Virginity of the Mother of God - Before, during and after the Birth. ----
Above the image of the Virgin, two Cherubs remind us of light and darkness. ----
