Cuzco School (Peru), Saint Michael the Archangel, 18th Century  Translated
Description:
Small painting from the Cuzco School (Peru), depicting the Archangel Gabriel slaying the demon. The artists of Cuzco broke away from European models and abandoned the real world to venture into fairy tales. Thus, they began to paint angels enveloped in regal garments embellished with decorations. They painted several series of angels: angels wielding firearms, lances, and flags; musical angels playing instruments; and angels wearing feminine skirts with armor, helmets, and shields. In the case of our small painting, the archangel is depicted with these characteristics. Period: 18th century Origin: Peru Dimensions: 19.5 x 24.5 cm  Translated
