Portrait of a Lady (1851)  Translated
Description:
The immobility of the pose does not prevent the flourishing gentlewoman from expressing the vivacious, sober, and lordly spirit of the social class to which she belongs. It is an active and affluent Milanese class that comes down to us in the portraits of Mauro Conconi, Eliseo Sala, Giuseppe Molteni, Francesco Hayez, etc., in a gallery of noble landowners and solid bourgeois who show us the pre-Risorgimento high society of the city. Mauro Conconi was one of the most talented and sought-after Milanese artists of this period, both as a portrait painter (his portraits are in Brera and the Modern Art Gallery of Milan) and in commissions on religious and above all historical themes, then considered the most important genre (examples include the frescoes in Palazzo Visconti in Milan, in the Cathedral of Lodi, in many Milanese and Lombard palaces). The painting is signed and dated 1851. Oil on oval canvas measuring cm.98.5 x 74, in perfect condition.  Translated
