Giovanni Battista Carlone (Genoa, around 1603 – Parodi Ligure, around 1684) - Joseph and Potiphar's Wife SOLD  Translated
Description:
Giovanni Battista Carlone SOLD (Genoa, around 1603 – Parodi Ligure, around 1684) Joseph and Potiphar's Wife, circa 1630-1640 Oil on canvas, 135 x 165 cm. Unpublished. Painting with certificate of free circulation. With expertise by Prof. Camillo Manzitti The unpublished work has been attributed by Camillo Manzitti to Giovanni Battista Carlone, the most famous exponent of a family of artists originally from the Mendrisio area who settled in Genoa around the mid-sixteenth century. […] The canvas presented here, depicting the biblical episode of "Joseph and Potiphar's Wife" (Genesis 39, 6-20), should be chronologically placed in the thirties of the seventeenth century, in the phase of the master's early maturity: it seems to reinterpret, renewing it, a room painting by Vermiglio representing the same subject, now kept in a private collection and probably made for a Milanese client...
