MADONNA WITH CHILD AND ANGELS
tempera on panel, Creto-Venetian School, late 17th century.
Interesting and rare tempera on panel of Creto-Venetian school with evident influences and legacies of Byzantine art. Work of absolute originality and state of natural conservation without restorations. The beautiful wooden tabernacle is original and forms a single body with the panel, surrounding and guarding it, thus accentuating its domestic and devotional aspect. The Child is represented standing next to the Mother, wrapped in a tunic that reaches to his feet. Mary indicates him, according to the tradition of the "Virgin Hodegetria" who, by pointing to the Son, defines the Path towards the Light of God.
Italy (Veneto and Mediterranean Basin) - late 17th century.
