Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli (Turin, 1730-1800) Rural landscape with figures and animals Oil on canvas, 55 x 66 cm In perfect condition, with contemporary frame Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli is now unanimously considered by critics as the best Piedmontese landscape painter of the eighteenth century, and a series of artistic and archival studies have made it possible over the last twenty years to define his human and cultural journey. The painter was born in Turin on April 15, 1730, into a family of Veronese origin that had important artists active since the seventeenth century (we remember, among many, Vittorio Amedeo's grandfather: Martino Cignaroli, active in Verona, Milan, Asti). The parents were Marianna Cavet from Piedmont and Scipione, an illustrious landscape painter, native of Milan, active for the Savoy court since the beginning of the eighteenth century.
