Vittorio Amedeo Rapos (Turin, 1729-1800) - Allegory of putti for the Arts of the Word / Allegory of putti for the Arts of the Image SOLD  Translated
Description:
Vittorio Amedeo Rapos (Turin, 1729-1800) Allegory of putti for the Arts of the Word (?), circa 1770 Allegory of putti for the Arts of the Image (?), circa 1770 Oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm each. Unpublished. SOLD The two pendants each feature seven putti in an interior, mostly nude or summarily covered with drapes of various colors and differently adorned and busy. In one case, the center of the scene is occupied by a little girl, charmingly adorned with jewels and holding a puppy in her arms, posed in favor of a companion who, sitting in front of an easel with palette and paintbrush, is sketching her portrait on an oval canvas. On the right, two putti appear to be exchanging opinions, one holding the statuette of a satyr, the other intent on showing a drawing sheet from a folder on which he has probably just sketched the antique-style work of art. On the opposite side, in the shadow of a large sculpted vase and next to sheets and a notebook untidily scattered on the floor, two other putti lovingly pass a small figure from hand to hand, whose white color suggests a marble-like consistency. In the second painting, the lively gathering takes place in an environment characterized by the presence in the background of a bookcase full of heavy volumes and with a bust of Apollo, protector of the arts and in particular of poetry and music... (see Giamblanco 2015 catalog) The work is on loan for the exhibition Spiritelli, Amorini, Genietti e Cherubini.
