Inlaid Writing Table Louis XVI Period — Lombardy, last quarter of the 18th century (circa 1780–1790) General Description Refined Louis XVI period writing table of Lombard production, entirely veneered with precious woods (walnut, rosewood, palissander, and boxwood) with rich neoclassical style inlay decoration. Structural Features and Inlays The Top: * Central Medallion: Set in an oval inlaid reserve depicting a classical figure (Diana the huntress / allegorical figure with bow and quiver), rendered with refined skill in shading and detail of volumes. Wood Arrangement: "Herringbone" veneer. Border: Rich perimeter band inlaid with dense phytomorphic oak branches and acorns, framed by light and dark wood stringing. The Apron (Skirt): Features a retractable front drawer, perfectly integrated into the furniture's lines, with a central brass knob. The corner blocks on the four legs feature a characteristic geometric rosette/daisy inlay, typical of neoclassical Lombard cabinetmaking from the Milan area. Supports: Four inverted truncated pyramid legs (fluted/truncated-pyramidal legs), slender and elegant, enhanced by vertically inlaid reserves along their entire length.
